3 Steps to Channel Main Character in the New Year
Imagine your life is a TV show, and each new year is a brand-new season. You get to be the writer, producer, director, and main character. All the power’s in your hands. You can take your show wherever you want to go—reset old storylines, script fresh plot lines, change the whole vibe, heck, even create a new theme song.
It feels limitless, doesn’t it?
So why not bring a bit of that magic into your real life? Why not step into your main character energy and curate the life you actually want to live?
The beautiful thing about a new year is that it gives you space to imagine your next chapter. And nobody said that chapter has to be perfect. Honestly…what TV character’s life is ever perfect? It’s not about flawlessness.
It’s about
Intentionality,
Self-direction
Believing in what’s possible for you
Picture where you want to go, carve out that vision, and step into that reality.
Let’s explore three ways you can channel your main character energy and turn your vision board into a broadcast of your dream life.
1 —
Scripting your Next Chapter
Where would a tv show be without its script? Every plot point, character arc, and emotional beat is written first. A script shapes the mood of a season and gives the actors their motivations.
Your new year deserves the same foundation.
This is your moment to get reflective, creative, and imaginative about the life you’re stepping into. How do you want to grow? What dreams and goals do you want to pursue? What do you want this next chapter to feel like?
Journaling
Start with a thoughtful journaling session to explore what your dream life looks like and what it takes to get there.
Reflect on
How you want the year to flow
What main character energy means for you
A day in your dream-life episode
Letters to your future self
Habits, routines, and emotional goals
Goal Setting
What are the main plot points for your next season? What development do you want your main character—you—to reach? Use your journaling notes to inspire SMART goals that feel aligned, meaningful, and doable.

Storyboarding Your Vision Board
Artists and directors storyboard TV shows frame by frame to bring a script to life? That’s exactly what your vision board does. It helps you visualize the direction your life is moving toward.
Show Your Becoming
When designing your vision board, don’t only include the final results. Show the journey, too.
If your dream is to become a successful YouTuber, don’t only pin award milestones and high follower counts. Include:
Beginner equipment
Editing scenes
Filming in everyday spaces
Behind-the-scenes moments
These images help you recognize your progress as it unfolds—something every main character needs.
Create an Aesthetic
Realistic doesn’t mean boring. Give your board a vibe.
Think of your favorite TV shows. Study their color palettes, fonts, iconic phrases, symbols, and recurring imagery. Let those elements inspire the aesthetic of your board.
For example, one of my childhood favorites was That’s So Raven. Imagine creating a vision board inspired by its Y2K-boho-chic aesthetic!

Create Your Theme Song
What’s a show without it’s theme song? It sets the tone instantly. Uplifting lyrics, soothing melodies, energizing beats, every show has its own mood. And you deserve one, too.
Hype Song
Choose a hype song (or build a playlist!) that instantly reminds you of who you’re becoming.
Play it in the morning, during routines, or when you’re celebrating a win. Let it become your personal power anthem.
Affirmations
Words have frequency and fire.
Pull affirmations from your journal entries or vision board themes. Place them somewhere visible and repeat them whenever you need a boost.
Embrace Your Main Character Energy
Step into your new chapter with intention, imagination, and joy. Have fun building your dream life. When you start seeing your life like the TV show it is, you give yourself permission to produce a story you’re proud of.
